Silk Island (Koh Dach), Cambodia

On Silk Island, the steady rhythm of wooden looms fills the air. Women work in small, open workshops along the Mekong, continuing a centuries-old tradition of silk weaving.

Each step is done by hand - from boiling the cocoons to dyeing and weaving the threads. The process moves slowly and with care, shaped by repetition and time. The first and second image are of a mother and daughter who work close by each other, part of the same practice carried forward.

This visit felt like a visual field note - a quiet study of colour, rhythm, and patience. I’m often drawn to places where tradition and artistry meet, where the act of making is both practical and deeply meaningful.

After visiting Silk Island, we rode bikes a few miles along the road to a reclining Buddha. Dogs slept in the shade; children waved and called out hello. The golden statue held a quiet presence, reflecting the history, peace, and persistence that shape this island.
